Peter Mock, PhD, PG, PH

President and Principal Scientist, Peter Mock Groundwater Consulting

Dr. Mock has led Peter Mock Groundwater Consulting since 1997, specializing in numerical simulation of flow and transport with extensive experience collecting and interpreting geologic, hydrologic and chemical data.

Projects of note include regional simulations of the Irvine Sub-basin in Southern California, the carbonate system of southeastern Nevada, and the N and D Aquifers of northeastern Arizona, as well as remedial investigations at several federal Superfund sites including Tucson International Airport, Phoenix-Goodyear Airport, Indian Bend Wash, San Gabriel Valley, Montrose-Del Amo and MCAS El Toro.

He has worked on subsidence, artificial recharge and dewatering projects and on the adjudication of water rights on the Gila River Watershed. He served as a neutral expert for groundwater modelling on the Guadalupe Oil Field mediation and oversaw remediation of two multi-million-gallon jet fuel spills beneath an airport property. Dr. Mock earned his Bachelor of Science in Hydrology and his PhD in Hydrology with a minor in Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona.

Jill Ryer-Powder, PhD, DABT

Principal Health Scientist, Environmental Health Decisions

Dr. Ryer-Powder provides expertise in toxicology, human health risk assessment and product hazard evaluation, bringing more than 25 years of experience in litigation support, risk assessment, Proposition 65 evaluation and occupational toxicology.

She is responsible for strategic preparation, project management and evaluation of chemical toxicity for risk assessment and product hazard evaluation projects, and is involved in the investigation and analysis of legal and regulatory issues and contested claims regarding chemical causation of disease in humans.

A pioneer in the development of safe exposure levels for petroleum fuels and ammonia, she has worked extensively with US EPA Region IX, the Department of Toxic Substances Control, the Los Angeles and San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and the Orange County Health Care Agency. She has managed and performed more than 100 health risk assessments and has provided expert testimony in cases involving exposure to metals, solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons.

She received her Bachelor degree in Nutrition from Cornell University and her PhD in Toxicology from Rutgers University, and did post-doctoral work at the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

Mr. Johnson has 30 years of programme management experience across remedial investigation and feasibility study, environmental and hazardous waste management, Phase I and Phase II site investigation, construction oversight, groundwater monitoring and hydrogeology, municipal water resources, regulatory agency interaction, site closure strategy, water quality assessment and groundwater resource development.

His experience covers project management, planning, staffing, training, budgeting and oversight of field construction operations, well design and specification for large-capacity public supply and monitoring wells, soil, groundwater and soil vapour sampling, Westbay well design and sampling, borehole logging and stratigraphy, borehole geophysics, and aquifer pump testing and hydrogeologic characterization.

Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Humboldt State University and a Master of Science in Geology with an emphasis in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology from California State University, Los Angeles. He maintains Professional Geologist licenses in California, Washington, Illinois and Wisconsin, and is Adjunct Professor of Physical Sciences at Citrus College.

John McCabe, CSP, QEP, CEM

Mr. McCabe has over 30 years of experience in national and international environmental health and safety programmes, including multi-media regulatory compliance, serving clients in manufacturing, oil and gas, biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device, aerospace, electronics, government and construction, including in a litigation context.

He has managed environmental health and safety teams and services for large consulting organizations and in private industry, covering workers compensation claims, accident investigation, health and safety compliance programme development, emergency response, and environmental regulatory compliance audits.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University, San Diego and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California. He holds Certified Safety Professional, Qualified Environmental Professional and Certified Energy Manager registrations.
